Family standards under threat – PM

PRIME MINISTER FRUENDEL STUART is concerned that the strength, stability and standard of the family in Barbados is under threat.

He expressed these reservations while addressing participants at a national consultation on the Barbadian family staged by the Anglican Diocese at the Ivan Harewood Centre of Christ Church Parish Church yesterday.

Stuart said that once upon a time it took a village to raise a child, but nowadays not even the child’s maternal grandparents were interested in such. He explained this by highlighting the increasing number of mothers and children who were becoming homeless.

“They were put out by their own mothers – grandmothers of the children – and the explanation given . . . is that the grandmothers [are] saying they can’t take any more noise in the ears, they want some peace and so on. . .” (SDB MEDIA)
