‘Not all criminals’ on block

NOT only people bent on crime hang out on blocks, say some who frequent these stamping grounds.

On the grounds of the St George Parish Church, the men said they were helpful and gainfully employed.

They were responding to Reverend Lucille Baird speaking on Sunday urging the banishment of blocks in Barbados as she said they were breeding grounds for crime.

“That is unfair, because when you run people off the blocks, where would they go? Plus not everyone on the block is a criminal; some people gather for recreation,” one man said.

Adrian Brathwaite runs Hawk’s car wash. He said his business started from hanging out on the block. (CA)
