OVER 100 YEARS ago the then Barbados Water Supply Company requested more time to lay pipes. The Barbados Water Authority commenced operations on April 1, 1981.
Thirty-five years later now the BWA sets up for the first time a customer information service, a management services information system, an inventory management system, and other systems.
So what have they been doing for the last 35 years?
It seems as if no planning has been done to replace the old cast iron pipe used as mains before, definitely no inventory management as not so long ago it was found that BWA had paid for and not received parts/equipment purchased from the US.
Recently there was panic buying of tankers that were left standing in the Port. Surely in view of the dire situation they should have been offloaded and immediately collected by BWA, checked over and put to work.
The last time there was a national power outage BWA pumps were not working as they needed electricity so why are there not generators at each pumping station to provide electricity.
Not wishing to keep on and on but with five parishes suffering through lack of water and still paying the water bills for no water surely this is breach of contract?
