IT IS TIME the Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (BNCPTA) gets out of the “suitcase trade” and set up a staffed secretariat to better assist PTAs across the island.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones made the call as he stressed the important role the BNCPTA has played in the country’s education system.
“The BNCPTA is an integral part of the total process of educating the nation’s youth. So much so that in 2008, as part of the duties of the minister of education, he has to ensure there are viable and functioning PTAs – that’s in the act – and that’s why I took on the role of revitalising the BNCPTA back in 2008/09,” he said in an interview with the DAILY NATION.
“I would like to see the PTAs at the local level becoming a lot more vigorous in promoting what I call education and learning. I’m not talking about education and learning in the strictest pedagogical sense but also supporting and enhancing the environment for the learning of their children and cooperating with teachers and school leaders to make it better for their children in an overall sense.” (GBM)
