PINELANDS CREATIVE WORKSHOP could easily sail into the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) Finals and possibly land a gold award after an expressive, well-choreographed performance of AfroShip.
Warming the hearts of the large audience and drawing thunderous applause at the Major Noot Hall of Combermere School last Saturday night, the fusion of African and Barbados Landship movements was energetic and rhythmic, and the dancers were full of attitude as they carried out the instructions of the admiral.
And those drummers! They made those skins come alive, enveloping the auditorium, as they brought the first half of the fifth NIFCA Performing Arts semi-finals to an end.
It was one of three entries from the group that has been a staple in the artform in Barbados. They also performed Saraca and Tribute To Archbishop Granville Williams, which were good, though not as gripping. (GBM)
