THE ISLAND’S historic monuments are in for a facelift.

And at the top of the list is the Independence Arch raised to commemorate the island’s 21st anniversary in 1987.

Word of this has come from the chairman of the Tourism Development Corporation (TDC) Martin Ince who, however, said he did not have to hand the cost of the restoration.

“When monuments have been there for a long time, they tend to need sprucing up. But more importantly it’s to actually tell the story as to the reason why there are monuments there,” he said, adding the Independence Arch would have its missing plaques replaced and other repair work done. (HLE)
