THE LOCAL TRACK and field governing body has hit back at long last.

It may have taken two months, but the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) has come out in support of its athletes, defending the selection of every member of the Olympic team to Rio.

The AAB sent an official release to the WEEKEND NATION in response to several criticisms made in the media suggesting that certain athletes shouldn’t have been chosen for the Rio Games.

“The majority of these athletes had already passed the tests that would have led them to the Olympics as legitimate and worthy competitors. That is, first, that all of them that had competed at the Caribbean and Central American (CAC) level, had all won medals at these games or championships,” wrote the AAB in the statement. (JM)
