Drive to get more blood donors

THE NATIONAL BLOOD Collecting Centre is expected to get a much-needed top-up for its blood bank, thanks to Gift from the Heart, a year-long signature project of the Lions Club of Bridgetown.

The goal of the campaign is to have 60 new donors added to the volunteer donor pool.

President Nicola Callender said the club designed a pamphlet to dispel the myths about who qualifies to give blood. Callender said diabetics could donate as long as they were not on insulin, hypertensive individuals as well as those who had tattoos or acupuncture more than a year before.

Speaking at the launch at the centre’s Ladymeade Gardens, Jemmotts Lane, St Michael office recently, Callender also said a Facebook page was to be created to keep the public abreast of what the centre’s needs are. (LK)
