Nine schools in St Michael quiz competition

NINE SCHOOLS are vying for top honours in this year’s St Michael Battle of the West Primary Schools’ Competition.

Two-time champions Westbury Primary will be up against Deacons Primary, Eagle Hall Primary, St Stephen’s, Rock Christian and Trinity Academy.

The newcomers are Grazettes Primary, St Mary’s Primary and Wesley Hall Juniors, which have been added for the 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrations.

The winner will receive a plaque, $1 500 and an island safari tour compliments Island Safari. The runners-up will win $1 000, a trophy and a safari tour, while the third place finishers will enjoy a day at Hilton Barbados in addition to $500 and a trophy.

Schools may have as many as five players, but only three can compete.

Anong the categories will be tourism and festivals, national symbols and heroes, personalities and characters, culture, Bajan sayings, spelling and general knowledge.

The first two preliminaries will be held on October 26 and November 2, respectively. The semi-finals are slated for November 16 and the finals one week later.

Now in its fourth year, the quiz is organised by the St Michael North West Development Foundation and schools are drawn from the St Michael constituencies, including the City of Bridgetown. (SAT)
