THE DEMOTION OF Akanni McDowall from the senior position of Acting Health Planning Officer 1 to his substantive post of Environmental Health Assistant 1 is in the hands of the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO).

Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer Suckoo said that McDowall, who is the president of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), requested a meeting with the CPO, under whose remit the matter fell.

“The chief personnel officer, as far as I am aware, has been doing the research before such a meeting can take place,” she said.

But the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is not at all happy with the treatment of the president of its sister union, and through its general secretary, Toni Moore, has sent a letter to the CPO, making its position clear. Moore said the BWU was alarmed that the action was taken despite there being “no dissatisfaction expressed regarding the length or quality of his service”. (TSG)
