‘Time to look at privatisation’

IT’S TIME FOR GOVERNMENT to take a long, hard look at which state corporations should be privatised, and where the outsourcing of services to the country’s private sector should continue particularly if Barbados continues to struggle with debt and the provision of state services.

That’s the feeling of a former president of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce, Andy Armstrong, and Reginald Farley, the executive director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados, as the debate continues since Government recently decided to outsource the collection of garbage in four parishes to a number of private companies.

“Now is the best time for Government to look at it (privatisation),” Armstrong said.
