DEFENDING volleyball champions Flow Deacons scored a crucial win over contenders Cawmere to end the first round of the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One League out front.

In an awesome slug fest between Deacons’ Kyle Browne and Cawmere’s Shawn Simpson and Mark Lewis on Wednesday night at the Bond at Kensington Oval, Deacons took the game 25-20, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20.

Ironically, while Browne took some time to warm up his “hammer” setter, Rice found reliable substitutes in the consistent Malcolm Martindale and Pernelle Blunte.

On the other hand, while Simpson and Lewis were blasting the ball from their customary heights and usual ferocity, Cawmere’s three different setters strangely tried to give equal feed to all of their spikers. (KB)
