A FULLY FUNCTIONING ophthalmology surgical suite will go a long way in reducing the backlog of 700 patients who are awaiting eye procedures.

So said chief executive officer of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Dr Dexter James, as he received a $100 000 donation from business magnate Ralph “Bizzy” Williams in the QEH’s boardroom yesterday.

The donation will go towards the recently launched QUEST (Queen Elizabeth Hospital Eye Surgery Theatre) initiative to raise funds to support the recapitalisation of the Lions Eye Care Surgical Suite.

James said the intention was to recommission the surgical theatres by the end of this financial year on March 31, 2017. (HLE)
