MINISTER OF INDUSTRY and Commerce Donville Inniss has assured Barbadians they will not be denied their right of access to poultry products of their choice under his watch.

Speaking to the DAILY NATION yesterday after addressing a standards workshop at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Inniss said: “At the end of the day, our duty is to be able to ensure that the consumers are not denied the opportunity to get their chosen poultry products.”

His comments were made against a backdrop of previous complaints from chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, about chicken wings and other poultry being brought into the island, which threatened local production and sales.

Inniss said he had not been presented with “any evidence” that the importation of poultry products had done harm to domestic poultry production. (GC)
