BARBADOS AND THE Caribbean can continue to count on the support of the United States under a Trump presidency.

United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Linda Taglialatela told the Weekend Nation yesterday while there would “obviously be questions”, she believed the US would understand its strategic interest in the Caribbean and would continue to protect it.

She said: “I think when all is said, people will understand that the Caribbean is the extra-south border of the United States and there are things we need to do to support them and to protect our interest here and that we will work with them to maintain their security and safety; that we will work with them to develop their economic stability and that whatever it is that we need to do we will do to help them with education, law enforcement, the judicial institutions.” (GC)
