Caretaker sent packing

THE CARETAKER of an elderly man caught up in allegations of elder abuse last July was evicted on Friday from the home she shared with her 81-year-old charge.

Bailiffs moved in at the Friendship Terrace, St Michael home of Graham Barnes and evicted Elizabeth Watts while handing her a notice advising that her power of attorney had also been revoked.

Watts made headline news last July when Barnes’ relatives claimed that she had moved into his home acting as his caretaker, that he had willed her his house and possessions and that he was not being properly cared for.

At the time, Watts, a taxi driver, said she was introduced to Barnes by her friend to take him to his doctor’s appointments and eventually he asked her to move in. She said he took her to an attorney and gave her power of attorney over his affairs and also changed his will, leaving his house and possessions to her. (MB)
