Govt tackling ‘health hazard’

IN THE WAKE of a damning report from the Ministry of Health regarding the River Van Stand, Government is promising to come up with interim solutions to the problems at the terminal.

But the authorities also want vendors to cooperate with them before the area is completely redesigned.

The report, prepared by the ministry’s environmental protection department, outlined a number of issues at the van stand, inclusive of the presence of vermin, a lack of proper water-borne facilities and the threat of flooding.

“In essence the report determined the facility is a public health hazard, so we have to take steps to remedy the situation,” Minister of Transport and Works, Michael Lashley told the SUNDAY SUN when questioned about Government’s next move. (BA)
