A ST MICHAEL man will have to pay the courts $2 000 in three months or spend 12 months in prison after admitting to importing cannabis into the island.

Police say 28-year-old Shane Oneal Thompson of Hinds Hill, Cave Hill went to West SkyLine Cargo Limited at the Grantley Adams International Airport to clear a shipment consigned to him on November 9.

On inspecting the items, customs officers discovered one pound of cannabis in two plastic containers labelled as coffee.

Thompson ran away from the scene leaving the parcel behind.

The matter was reported to police who investigated and took Thompson into custody.

He was charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Thompson appeared in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court today and pleaded guilty to the offences.

He was fined for the offence of importation, and convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the other offences. (PR/NB)
