Why must I wait for transfusion?

A WOMAN SUFFERING from sickle cell disease is pleading with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) to give her the blood transfusion she so badly needs.

In fact, Rosamund Davis is afraid that she will die if she has to wait the 30 to 40 days stipulated by the QEH before the transfusion can be done.

Explaining her desperate situation, the 47-year-old mother of one said during one of her customary check-ups at the hospital’s haematology clinic about six weeks ago, doctors discovered that her blood count was dangerously low.

As a result, Davis said, they recommended that she receive two units of blood. (RB)
