Getting down to Independence vibe

IT’S LESS THAN two weeks to Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence, and national pride seems to be at an all-time high.

Fabric retailer Abed’s embraced this pride yesterday, hosting an Independence appreciation event with full tuk-band, Mother Sally and nut vendors in costume at its Bridgetown store.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of Swan Sweet at noon on a Saturday, Barbadians in their droves converged just outside the store to join in the patriotic display.

Store manager Suzette Layne said the idea behind Folklore Saturday came from the staff who felt pride in displaying their love for country. (AD)
