FORMER GENERAL SECRETARY of the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), Sir Roy Trotman, will be on the job as a special consultant for the next year.

Sir Roy, who served in the top post from 1992 to 2014, has agreed to remain on as a consultant to the BWU until December 2017.

During the NATION’s Editorial Forum last Thursday, general secretary Toni Moore said she couldn’t be happier Sir Roy had accepted her request to stay on board as the country’s oldest trade union continues to reposition itself to better represent its 25 000 members.

“Sir Roy’s presence has been extremely important in the past two years,” Moore, the union’s first female general secretary, admitted. “Sometimes I have been forced to unsuccessfully explain to people why it was so important to have the former general secretary there,” she added. (BA)
