Stuart gives LIAT full backing

PRIME MINISTER FREUNDEL STUART has reaffirmed Barbados’ commitment to regional airline LIAT.

He did so during his address on the Resolution of the Supplementary Estimates No.1 (2016-2017) when the House met yesterday. Stuart described LIAT as much more than a business but a platform that has made mammoth contributions to the deepening and development of Caribbean integration over its 60 years of existence.

And he argued that if there was no LIAT, this region could not have been held together as it has been for those years.

Notwithstanding that, Stuart, who is MP the St Michael South constituency, admitted that shareholder governments which invested in the airline, Barbados being the majority shareholder, would like to see the airline turn a profit. Beyond this he said credit should be given to the Caribbean carrier for its contributions, including its safety record. (SDB Media)
