Toppin: Liat a drain

“SUCKING US DRY.”

That was how Opposition Barbados Labour Party St Michael North MP, Ronald Toppin, described Barbados’ continued investment into regional airline LIAT.

In his highly critical contribution to the House’s debate on a resolution on the Supplementary Estimates No.1 (2016-2017) Toppin said the carrier, which employs close to 700 staff, was a “bottomless pit” when it comes to the injection of money.

“LIAT has never been a viable entity. As far as I am aware, it has never made a profit in any year. It has never been able to stand on its own two feet,” he said.

Toppin said Minister of Finance Christopher Sinckler, who tabled the resolution, should have brought LIAT’s financials to the House, so that the Opposition could have the benefit of examining them. (SDB Media)
