MINIBUS AND ROUTE TAXI OPERATORS want Government to ease them with road taxes – at least until it is able to do something to improve the quality of the roads.
And at least one private tour operator that has written Government repeatedly to complain about the “embarrassing state” of some roads, has determined it will drop one of the most scenic roads from its island tour for tourists in 2017 if nothing is done to improve the situation.
Complaining that the proliferation of potholes “on every route” was “shackling out” the buses, interim chairman of the Association of Public Transport Operators, Morris Lee, yesterday begged Government for a fees reduction since it was hardly likely to come up with the money to fix the roads anytime soon.
In fact, Lee said he had formally written Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler on the matter, entreating him to raise the sector’s concerns with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley. (RRM)
