POLITICIANS received a stern warning from an independent legislator yesterday.
During the Senate sitting, Sir Henry Fraser spoke out against the divisive message being propagated about the Independence celebrations and told legislators to leave politics out of it.
“The celebration is not supposed to be about political party as some sometimes seem to make it. For 20 years Jamaica, for example, has used and misused the word tribalism, the development of party politics that has repeatedly, of about 20 years, described as a tribal warfare or political warfare,” he stated.
“Today as a result of recent months’ activities in the United States, Trumpism is now triumphant. It is on the ascendancy in the USA and it has become, in the words of many, a throwback to fascism and the Mussolini period of 90 years ago. We must not go that route and Independence should be a time for unity and not a time for political party tribalism.” (WILLCOMM)
