TALK MIGHT BE CHEAP, but the head of the island’s largest tourism membership body believes dialogue is the key to ending the current industrial action at the island’s air and sea ports.
Describing it as “a very bad situation”, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), Sue Springer, wants the relevant authorities to meet urgently and bring an end to the impasse.
There are two forms of industrial action at the ports of entry.
Customs and immigration officers are on a go-slow at both the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) and the Bridgetown Port in support of National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) president Akanni McDowall, who was recently removed from a senior acting position in Government and returned to his substantive junior post.
