GUYANA’S PRESIDENT DAVID GRANGER is inviting more Barbadians to invest in Guyana.
In an exclusive interview at the Barbados Hilton this morning, Granger who is here for Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence celebrations, suggested Barbadians should consider investing capital in expertise, as well as sharing its experience in tourism and the hospitality industry.
“I would be very happy if Barbadian entrepreneurs could see Guyana as an economic horizon,” the Guyanese leader said, as he noted there was already “pretty large Barbadian investment” in southern Guyana where businessman Sir Kyffin Simpson has developed an extensive farm.
Granger stressed the two countries stood to benefit most from expanded economic co-operation.
Guyana conferred its highest honour, The Order of Roraima, on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart during its 50th anniversary of Independence in May. Granger said today it was a reward for Stuart’s declared support for Guyana in that country’s ongoing border dispute with neighbouring Venezuela.
The Guyana President, who takes over as chairman of CARICOM in January, also lauded Stuart’s contribution to CARICOM.
“When it came to the Caribbean Heads of Government meeting in Bridgetown in July, Prime Minister Stuart was forthright telling the Venezuelan vice president that the decree had to be withdrawn. So the award was a reward for the stand that he took for CARICOM and we are very proud of Prime Minister Stuart and what he did for Guyana and what he did for CARICOM.” (GC)
