ALMOST 700 PEOPLE to date have registered for tonight’s Signia Mile, the first event in the 2016 Run Barbados Series.

The official list of registered runners shows participants as young as two years old, all the way to 73 years.

The majority are from Barbados, but there are visiting runners from the United States, Britain, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Hungary and Australia.

The race will start in front of the Barbados Museum at 8 p.m. and head south along the Garrison to Hastings. Runners will make a right turn towards St Ann’s Fort and proceed along Bay Street to the finish at the Esplanade.

Participants are asked to have their bibs clearly displayed on the front of the shirt.

Meanwhile, organisers have also issued a note of caution. Recent flooding has damaged the surface of the road and runners are advised to be on the lookout for “pot holes”.

In addition to prizes for the top finishers, people in fun costumes are also eligible to win.

The 2016 Run Barbados Series continues on Saturday evening with the Cave Shepherd Visa Card 5K and Colombian Emeralds International 10K at 4 and 4:45 p.m., respectively.

It will conclude on Sunday with the Cave Shepherd Marathon and Marathon Relay and Fortress Half Marathon, both starting at 5 a.m., as well as the Ganzee 5K Walk for Charity at 7 a.m. (SAT)
