Bleaching products in demand

THE DEMAND for skin-lightening products has increased at some Bridgetown stores. 

But local patrons are not pleased with the restricted supply of lighteners on the market, according to retailers. 

The Barbados Drug Service (BDS) has confiscated products used for skin bleaching, like Victoria Lady Papaya Crème and Edguard Gel Forte 30gms, from the shelves under the instruction of the Barbados Pharmacy Council.

According to a statement from the BDS, the products contravened with the Second Schedule of the Pharmacy Act, CAP 372D. It was stated that the steroidal creams are classified under the Second Schedule of the said act, and therefore had to be administered with prescription from a locally registered doctor. (LT)
