Nero on fire!

THERE’S AN OLD track and field adage about “running through the line”.

Yesterday, Lanni Marchant and Natasha Wodak found out the hard way.

The two Canadian runners got the shock of their lives in Bay Street after losing the Run Barbados 10K in the most stunning of fashions.

Holding hands with victory in sight, the two friends started to celebrate five metres out from the finish line before Trinidadian Tonya Nero came from out of nowhere to nip them on the line.

It was one of the most surprising finishes ever in a Run Barbados event, as Nero herself said she never thought she was going to win at any point in the race. (Picture by Kenmore Bynoe.)
