MORE THAN 700 runners completed the Signia Fun Mile in the Run Barbados Series, which began at the Museum and climaxed at the Esplanade on Bay Street on Friday night.

As significant as the record number of competitors were the broad smiles the runners displayed on finishing the course.

Neil Renault of Britain was the first home in a time of four minutes and 39 seconds, but his driving finish was obscured somewhat by the antics of local distance champion Dario Grandison.

Grandison, a past winner of event, showboated ahead of Renault in the final sprint to the line, taking the victory banner before the authorities realised that he could not be an official participant as he did not have a number. (KB)
