THE INVESTIGATION into the unnatural death of young Shemar Weekes is now at the desk of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Charles Leacock.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Lybron Sobers informed the SUNDAY SUN his office was still awaiting direction from the DPP’s office to determine what steps to take next.
Weekes’ file had been sent back to the police by Coroner Manila Renee in mid-August for further investigation after an inquest into his death.
“I wrote a report and sent it back to the DPP’s office eight weeks ago in October,” Sobers noted. “From what I wrote, having read the Coroner’s report, I sent it to the DPP for further advice. I’m getting the impression the view might be that more investigation into the matter would have to be done by the police,” the senior cop said.
