Mottley: Classic case of neglect

OPPOSITION LEADER MIA MOTTLEY is convinced there is something amiss about a Government guarantee for the local sugar industry.

Speaking yesterday in the House of Assembly during debate on a measure to approve the guarantee of principal and interest on a $73 million bond by ANSA Merchant Bank for the Barbados Agricultural Management Company to finance the sugar industry, she raised questions about access to aspects of that financing.

“Something has gone amiss . . . . Is there approval and execution of the main transaction documents for the factory upgrade? Has that happened?

“If it has not happened, have you changed the preconditions to accessing that $18.5 million [portion]?” (GE)
