A FORMER TOURISM quality assurance officer terminated for prolonged sick leave, including a claim of 300 days in one year, is disputing her dismissal.
The three-man Employment Rights Tribunal led by chairman Hal Gollop QC, is hearing 57-year-old Constance Reid-Batson’s challenge of the Barbados Tourism Product Authority’s (BTPA) decision to end her employment in 2014 after 27 years.
The BPTA is claiming that Reid-Batson’s prolonged absence from a key post affected the productivity of the agency and it dismissed her after she consistently submitted sick certificates for extended periods since 2010.
Attorney Gregory Nicholls, who is representing Reid-Batson, is contending that her dismissal ran afoul of the Employment Rights Act. (AC)
