Touching final farewell for Farley

HE TOUCHED MANY lives in several ways and in death hundreds returned the favour to Matthew Farley. Many of them sang his praise and others shed tears in a celebration of the former principal’s life at his funeral service this morning.

Students of the Graydon Sealy Secondary School (formerly the Garrison Secondary) where Farley had been principal for 11 years, sang and played the music he enjoyed during the service at the Abundant Life Assembly.

Farley’s sister Dr Patricia Saul, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Senator Harry Husbands and others paid glowing tribute to the late outstanding educator.

There was standing room only in the Bank Hall, St Michael church where eight religious leaders participated in the three-hour-long service during which there was a string of tributes.

David Ellis of Starcom Network called Farley a “true Barbadian patriot” and past and present students stood and repeated the affirmation Farley had made them recite at assembly every morning of his tenure at the school where he built a proud ethos.

Farley who retired two years ago, died last week at age 62 after a brief illness.  He was interred at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens.  (GC)
