Walcott: Don’t blame BLP

AN OPPOSITION SENATOR is insisting that the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) did start a mains replacement programme at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).

Senator Dr Jerome Walcott, a former minister of health, rejected a now popular narrative from Government spokespersons that the failure of the former Owen Arthur administration to replace leaking water mains had contributed to the water supply woes that affected thousands of residents across several rural parishes.

Speaking in the Senate yesterday during debate on a resolution to accept the Barbados Green Economy Scoping Study as a national information document, Walcott said he supported the resolution but expressed concern about some issues affecting the environment. (GE)
