CHRISTIAN HINDS is the new champion driver of the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) SDRR Motorsports/Chefette Restaurants Championship.
The former student of the Christ Church Foundation School, who first won the title in 2010, racked up a massive 569 points and told WEEKENDSPORT that it was not as tough this time around as the first, but it felt good to win to be the champion.
“I was younger when I won back in 2010, and I was more excited then than now. But I had some challenges during the season which, with the help of my crew, I was able to overcome. It is always good to win,” he said.
Six years ago, he said, it was the Yamaha 310lb class, but this year it was the X30 class with a different level of competition.
The new champion had high praise for the BKA, sponsors, organisers and competitors, who teamed up to make the season as good as it was. However, he was undecided aboutnext season.
“I still had to fight this year, but my crew, which is headed by my dad, have not sat down to decide how we are going to tackle next year. There is the possibility that I could be defending the title in 2017.”
Hinds, who has had some overseas competition over the past three years, finished ahead of the Easykart 60 Cadet group champion Kyffin Simpson, with 532 points, while another group champion, Sebastian Thompson, on 517 points, finished third and also took the Easykart 100 Class honours.
Ricky Kirton, who finished second in the X30 Class with 491 points, finished fourth, while Calem Maloney, who won the EasyKart 125 Light Class with 470 points, placed fifth overall.
Stuart Garcia, who won the EasyKart 125 Master Class with 460 points, rounded out the top six places. (TT)
