Boyce going after owners

MINISTER OF HEALTH John Boyce has vowed to move aggressively to recoup funds spent on clearing properties of delinquent owners.

As he made a case for $3.15 million from the Consolidated Fund to finance Government’s debushing programme in the House of Assembly yesterday, the minister expressed serious frustration with Barbadians who can afford to clean their properties but refuse to do so.

Describing the situation as serious, he complained that these areas are providing a haven for rodents, and not only threaten human health but their safety as well.

He noted that environment health officers have the right to serve notices on property owners who violate the Health Services Act, and that the ministry can undertake cleaning if those in violation fail to comply within the stipulated time frame. (WILLCOMM)
