ONE POLITICIAN IS telling it like it is on the issue of harassment of females, and based on what she is saying it seems not enough is being done locally about it.
Christ Church West MP Maria Agard has Facebook hot these days talking about the tribulations professional women go through, and speaks frankly about her experiences.
Using muscular language at times, Agard told of walking up the stairs and a senior person at the company “placing his hands firmly on my [behind]. It’s not like he was decrepit and needed my behind for support. When I complained to the board of directors, mainly women, they told me to relax, he didn’t mean anything by it, that was just how he was”.
The dentist also alleged that a workman employed in retrofitting her office exposed himself to her.
In politics she suffered harassment too. She revealed that at dinner with a potential campaign financier he gave her “a dissertation of all the other female politicians he had slept with, to then asking me how much sex I ever had. That night I knew I wasn’t taking a cent from a boy. Financed my campaign myself. Me, family and friends”.
She also told of a campaign mentor repeatedly telling her in raw language, which she repeated, that he should have taken advantage of her when he had the chance.
Agard surmised that the workplace is actually a dangerous place for the vulnerable woman. “If you raise a ruckus about abuse you are fired, and if you complain civilly you are ignored.”
She stressed she was only sharing her stories “to debunk the myth that bad things only happen to wild girls, or that somehow these girls go looking for it by the way they dress or carry themselves, cause you could not want a bigger prude (conservative) than me”.
The MP also suggested there could be more to the girl on girl violence often seen.
“I just feel compassion for those girls because I understand that for many, that rage comes from a deeper more sinister place. You must ask yourself what is triggering this expression of rage in our young girls. Look deeper. The signs of abuse are manifesting themselves in that violence,” said Agard.
No joy this Christmas
IT WILL NOT be a Merry Christmas for a woman who found out that she had been fired without her boss even having the courtesy of informing her of that decision.
From what Cou Cou was told, the woman, who worked as a constituency assistant, received a letter from Parliament earlier this week saying the representative had revoked her letter of appointment.
It is understood that the woman was left totally bewildered by the development as she was not aware that the representative had a problem with her.
The woman had taken up the post in 2013 when the MP won the seat, and despite the challenges the MP had since then, she stuck with her boss and kept the office going. That’s why the way she was unceremoniously dumped is most painful.
