BARBADOS WERE SAVED from a shutout when Shakuan Lashley won the final bout of Friday night’s fourth session of the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament at the Sea Rocks Dome, Maxwell.

Lashley’s capture of the light heavyweight title from Deion Pruitt of the US Virgin Islands came as a surprise, since Pruitt seemed to have the upperhand over three rounds.

Lashley moved well in the ring although his hands were held low, creating problems when his opponent got near. However, though Pruitt appeared to throw more punches, the scoring blows apparently came from Lashley.

The other local boxers were beaten in the ring by opponents from Anguilla, Jamaica, and the US Virgin Islands.

It was a closely fought fight between Clairmont Gibson of Guyana and Barbados’ Ajayi Jones, with Gibson coming out on top.
