SOME RESIDENTS of Deane Village, Hindsbury Road, St Michael, are tired of what has become a major eyesore in their neighbourhood.

Mechanic Rommel Jones has been storing old vehicles and vehicle parts on unoccupied land in the area for the past eight years, and the ugly sight as well as the health hazard posed, have some residents fuming.

Cicely Alleyne, who has been living in the neighbourhood for 24 years, said she was tired complaining to health officials as she pointed out that she was struck by dengue fever this year and believes it was as a result of the mosquitoes breeding on the land.

Pointing out that the road was usually blocked, making it impossible for vehicles to pass, she said garbage trucks in particular did not pick up the garbage if the road was blocked.

Alleyne, who is retired, said she was also frustrated at having to look at old cars and old metal outside her home every day.

When approached about the situation, Jones became very aggressive when he spotted the reporter’s tape recorder and refused to comment. He would only say this was eight years that residents had been complaining about his business.

However, one of the three landowners who has given him permission to utilise the land, said he had spoken to Jones on several occasions about how he was keeping the surroundings.

He promised to speak to him once more about the mess and the congestion he was creating.
