THE GATES of Combermere School will swing open once again in the New Year.

That assurance has come from Minister of Education Ronald Jones, who told the SATURDAY SUN yesterday that Government had spent over $500 000 to repair the school, which has been plagued by environmental issues, resulting in it being closed for the past five weeks.

He said the money was used to refurbish the school’s laboratories, as well as to improve the infrastructure.

The news came following an over two-hour meeting involving the school’s teaching and auxiliary staff at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechinc (SJPP) yesterday morning, where history teacher Charles Morris said he had heard rumours that Combermere School was set to reopen on January 9, 2017.
