MEMBERS OF THE Drug Squad have arrested and charged a St Lucian national for a number of drug related offences which were allegedly committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on December 13.

Forty-year-old Alfred Wayne Simeon is accused of unlawful possession of cocaine, unlawful possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Simeon arrived in the island by air from St Lucia and having cleared immigration, he was stopped and interviewed by police. On completion of this interview suspicions were aroused and he was referred to Customs to have his luggage and person searched.

This search allegedly revealed two transparent wrapped packages containing powdered cocaine concealed inside his underwear.

Simeon was taken into custody by the police who conducted further investigations. He was later referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where police say he passed out 14 taped packages containing powdered cocaine.

Police say the cocaine seized at the airport weighed one kilogramme and had a street value of $50 000 while that from the QEH weighed 185 grammes and was valued at $9 250.

Simeon is expected to appear in the District “B” Magistrates Court today. (PR/NB)
