A SIX-GOAL thriller was decided from the penalty spot in a tense shoot-out before Warriors emerged victorious in the Barbados Secondary Schools Football League All-star match at the Usain Bolt Complex on Friday night.
After 90 minutes, Warriors and Superstars were locked at 3-3, reflecting an outstanding comeback for Superstars who were trailing 0-2 at half-time.
Both teams had an encouraging start, with Warriors making more goal attempts but failing to put away some good chances.
Kavian Inniss of Warriors got the ball rolling when he scored in the 30th minute with a clinical finish. Five minutes later Niall Reid-Stephens added the Warriors’ second, putting more pressure on the Superstars.
After the half-time break, Superstars got on the scoresheet through a brilliant shot from Zidane Clarke, and Avery Chandler soon made his contribution, locking the scores at 2-2.
By that time the pressure had transferred to the Warriors, who scored their third goal in the 70th minute through Inniss once again. But Cliff Gooding-Edghill scored in the 75th to lock the scores once more.
Both teams played their hearts out in search of the deciding goal but it came down to the shoot-out. The penalty takers were on target until Superstars’ Tre Miguel-Ifill missed the mark, helping Warriors take the match 5-4 on penalties. (RG)
