DEAR CHRISTINE: Marriage no longer exciting

DEAR CHRISTINE, When we first got married, my wife and I found everything exciting. We hardly wanted to see anyone else.

Now I suspect she is not as caring as before and I am getting tired of the same old routine. We don’t even seem to have anything to talk about.

In a way I still care for her and wish you can tell me what you feel would help.

Dear D.K.,

A famous psychologist described marriage as a two-stage rocket. It can start off with great fanfare and soar into space until it reaches the second where it sheds its first stage encumbrances and goes on to complete its journey.

Many marriages don’t make the transition. I am hoping yours will.

You said you suspect that your wife is not as caring. Why not ask her what her true feelings are? Then you should set about liking each other and developing a few outside interests.

Please note I said liking. Very often couples rush into marriages in a hot love sweat before they even get to know each other. As a result, there is no friendship in the relationship.

Maybe you can have a go at games. Is there some creative work you can share between yourselves?

What about keeping in touch with a few of the friends you probably drifted from during the courtship days? Have them in for a meal. It does not have to be anything big.

By now you have found out that no one person can fulfill all your needs. A couple should have room in their world to allow others to share some of their time.

Play fair and there will be no need for jealousy.
