A BAN ON POULTRY from England and Europe will not prevent Barbadians from putting some of their favourite Christmas meats on the table.
That assurance has come from chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), James Paul, in light of the recent move by Government to place a temporary restriction on all live birds from the United Kingdom and Europe as a result of bird flu.
A release from the Barbados Government Information Service yesterday stated: “The Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services Department has, with immediate effect, placed a temporary restriction on the importation of all live birds, hatching eggs, and on fresh, frozen and chilled poultry meat and products, including table eggs, originating from the United Kingdom and the European member states.
“These restrictions follow the confirmation of outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N8 in poultry farms in England,” it added.
