TOURS ARE essential if young cricketers are going to have the exposure needed to excel as professional cricketers.
That view was expressed by Franklyn Stephenson when he spoke to MIDWEEK SPORT concerning the recent 12-day trip to South Africa by the Franklyn Stephenson Academy.
“It’s immensely important. That is something we haven’t had so many players go on. Players from the West Indies team play and come back and they have to go back to the drawing board and they say they learned so much from this person and that person,” he said.
The former professional cricketer said youth cricketers from South Africa and England travelled widely and have that experience, even if it involved travelling within their country but in a different zone, while those in Barbados needed to get on a plane. (RG)
