TWO YOUNG Barbados Pride and West Indian cricketers had the honour and privilege of having their names written on history’s pages, to join some of the elite batsmen and bowlers who are known as Barbados’ cricketing legends.
At the annual Barbados Cricket Association and the Cricket Franchise of Barbados Inc. Christmas luncheon, entitled Celebration of Cricketing Excellence, Roston Chase and Kraigg Brathwaite were honoured along with the 1966 Shell shield regional four-day cricket team.
The Barbados team captained by Sir Garfield Sobers won the tournament undefeated; winning three matches and drawing the other to claim victory. Barbadian batsman Peter Lashley led the tournament in runs, while teammate Rawle Brancker and Jamaican bowler Rudolph Cohen led the tournament in wickets.
In his address of the two top performers, Keith Holder described the young West Indians’ work on and off the field as exceptional. (RA)
