New millionaire has big plans

LAST SATURDAY, ONE lucky Barbadian became a millionaire and yesterday the cheque for$1 150 000 was handed over at the Barbados Lotteries, Independence Square office.

The winner, though not identified, has plans to enjoy the proceeds from the Mega 6 game said Ruby Fields who collected on the man’s behalf.

“They are elated over the fact that they have won,” she said, adding that the winner, who plays the games regularly has plans to upgrade the family home and take a vacation.

Site operations manager of Barbados Lotteries Dentonia Brewster said that since the Mega 6 game started in the 1990s there have been 11 millionaires.

“Barbadians continue to play the Barbados Lottery, most Barbadians know that the support of the lottery also is supporting sports and culture, so they do continue to support the lottery especially when the prizes get to this size,” he said.

He added that the Double Draw played solely in Barbados continued tobe the number one game with Mega 6 following closely; especially when Mega 6 starts to move into the million-dollar figure.

The Mega 6 jackpot usually starts at $375 000, but this time an additional $2 million of an unclaimed prize from January has been added.

The prize for last night’s draw, just before Christmas, was $ 2.7 million.

So far this year nine people have won theMega 6 jackpot. Brewster said every year they have about six to ten winners,so this year’s figure wasin the expected range. (LK)
