A FED-UP LANDOWNER is calling for Government to repeal the controversial tipping fee.

Thomas Herbert, owner of Claybury Plantation in St George, said that since the measure was introduced last year, illegal dumping had been rampant in the area of Tappy Pond, St George.

Herbert said that not only was the dumping unsightly and unsanitary, but it could contaminate the water supply in the area of Sweet Vale Valley.

“The valley does not have any run-off, unlike the West Coast where if you get heavy rains and it runs off into the sea, it takes any pollution with it. But with this valley the water settles, it soaks down through the ground to the aquifer and then it is pumped up for drinking water,” he explained. (TG)
